Terms & Conditions
Entry
Lanchester Literature is open to anyone living in or with a connection to the village. Entry is free. Each entrant may submit one piece per theme, in one category of their choosing (short story, poetry, or micro-fiction), within that theme’s stated word or line limit. Entries must be the entrant’s own original, previously unpublished work.
Copyright
Copyright in each entry remains with the author at all times. By entering, you grant Lanchester Literature and the Village Voice a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, edit for length or clarity, and publish your entry in the Village Voice and online on this website and in connection with promoting the competition. You’re free to publish or submit your work elsewhere at any time, including before or after it appears in the Village Voice.
First publication rights
Where an entry is selected as a winner, the entrant agrees to give the Village Voice first publication rights for that piece — that is, the Village Voice will be the first place it appears in print. If your entry has already been published elsewhere, please let us know at the time of entry.
Judging
Entries are judged at the discretion of Lanchester Literature. The judge’s decision is final, and correspondence about individual results won’t be entered into. A winning entry will be published in a future issue of the Village Voice and other winning entries will be published online on this website, alongside credit to the author (unless anonymity is requested).
Content
As the Village Voice and this website is read by the whole village, entries must be suitable for a family readership. We reserve the right to decline any entry that doesn’t meet this standard, or that isn’t the entrant’s own original work.
Data
Contact details (name and email) are used only to administer the competition and contact entrants about their entry, and won’t be shared beyond that purpose, except to publish the author’s name alongside their work (unless anonymity is requested).
Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time; the version live on the website at the time of entry applies.
